THE GOLDEN GLEE CLUB is a comedy musical inspired by the Golden Girls. It was first performed at Woodlawn Pointe in San Antonio with a cast of male actors in drag playing the four central characters. Rose suggests to the other “Golden Girls” that they need some new hobbies or activities to prevent them from vegetating. Blanche arrives home and bursts into song about this great guy she’s met. They are impressed with her singing and this gives them the idea to start up a glee club to entertain at retirement homes. Sofia tries various ways of trying to extort money from Dorothy and eavesdrops when Blanche tries unsuccessfully to seduce the new man she has met with a song called “Make Love Like a Savage”. Unfortunately, the man of her dreams turns out to be gay. But they become friends and he joins their glee club. 12 songs. Orchestrations by Gareth Price and Karl Logue.
