Success! Reviews of the CD Beneath The Mask, By Christine Daae A modern adaptation of the Faust story, Success! is set "behind the scenes" in a Broadway show. where aspiring songwriter Robert Ponsonby (Maurice Clarke) falls in love with chorus girl Angela Goodall (Claire Moore), falls under the control of agent Cedric E de Ville (Lon Satton), is seduced by star Stella Hudson ( Kathryn Evans), and eventually discovers the truth and is reunited with Angela. The whole show is firmly tongue-in-cheek, with a fair amount of parody, and is great fun. It has a contemporary score, very different from Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights, with some fantastic jazzy numbers. The cast, particularly Claire Moore and Kathryn Evans, are brilliant, and the songs are all excellent - some hilarious too. I love every second of this CD - buy it! |
