Claire Moore
Claire Moore has appeared on several of Bernard J Taylor's recordings,
and has two solo albums of his songs - Child of the Earth, which
features songs written for her by Bernard J. Taylor, and Songs from
the Musicals of Bernard J Taylor.
She sings Mina on Nosferatu,
the Vampire, Elizabeth Bennet on Pride and
Prejudice,
Beatrice on Much Ado, Angela on Success!.
In 1993 Claire was acclaimed by Impressions magazine as "the
greatest singer on the British musical stage today". She was born
in Lancashire, the daughter of a jazz musician, and started singing while
she was at school. She worked in cabaret around the North-West of England
before joining the Royal Northern College of Music to study Opera and Vocal
Studies, where she trained from 1978 - 1982.
Claire has performed a wide variety of roles, covering musicals, opera
and straight plays. She has appeared in The Duchess of Malfi, The Critic,
The Real Inspector Hound and The Cherry Orchard for the National Theatre.
She took over the leading role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera
from Sarah Brightman, and played opposite Michael Crawford. She later returned
to the role playing opposite Ethan Freeman. Claire left Phantom in 1989
to create the role of Ellen in Miss Saigon, and has also starred in Les
Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar, Born Again, Putting It Together, The
Card, Camelot and Little Shop of Horrors. Her opera work includes La Boheme
on the Isle of Wight in 1995, and she recently sang Mozart's Exultate Jubilate
at a concert. She is frequently in demand for concerts and radio broadcasts,
and has appeared in various tributes to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen
Sondheim, Songs from the Shows and Friday Night Is Music Night broadcasts
for the BBC.
She is featured on many recordings other than the musicals of Bernard
J Taylor, including a studio cast recording of The Phantom of the Opera,
the 20th anniversary recording of Jesus Christ Superstar, a Les Miserables
highlights recording, and many compilation albums. She has also joined
other stars on their own solo recordings, including Peter Karrie and Colin
Wilkinson.
Claire married in 1995 and gave up performing for a while to concentrate on her
family.
