| Wuthering Heights
Review in a Dutch newspaper of the British School's production in
Voorschoten, The Netherlands, January, 1994
The talented and committed cast of the British School transported their
delighted audiences in their powerful and atmospheric World Premiere of the
new musical Wuthering Heights, by Bernard J Taylor.
Packed enthusiastic audiences were charmed by the grace and liveliness of
Cathy (Anne Nikitin) who grew before their eves from a pert and wayward child
to a woman torn by divided passions.
The strength of the production was in the whole cast working as a
professional team, whether in a glittering, brightly lit ballroom or on a wild
hillside with the mist swirling around Pennistone Crag. Ni c Raine, the
orchestrator of the original score, was delighted with the way the music was
interpreted musically by the School Orchestra and Choirs.
So will we see Wuthering Heights on London's West End Stage? I think
after the success of the Voorschoten Premiere we may well do so.
Following is a review of the same production in a Dutch-language newspaper:
Passion and scenes charged with atmosphere dominated last week when for
four nights the young actors of the British School in Voorschoten presented a
beautiful and very moving world premiere of a new musical version of Wuthering
Heights.
It was a classic with great appeal. Four times in recent years the British
School managed to perform its yearly show by the pupils in a memorable way.
This time the well known love drama, Wuthering Heights, in an
adaptation by Bernard J. Taylor and Trevor Jackson, after the book by Emily
Bronte, was chosen.
It must be said that this British School in Voorschoten does not shy away
from big productions with a professional approach. This year it was Wuthering
Heights. It was an absolute success - a phenomenal production.
