In the late 1990s, while working on his musical, Liberty!, in San Antonio, Texas, he began developing a series of mystery novels set in San Antonio. Each features San Antonio Chief of Homicide Terrell Newman and an ensemble of professional associates. Two other books featuring suspense themes have also been published. In writing these books he has consulted with various experts including homicide detectives, psychologists and forensic pathologists. J. Taylor began his career as a journalist, working for various newspapers and
magazines as a writer and editor. He worked for ten years with Shell Oil Company
as a publicist for senior management. After leaving Shell, he free-lanced for
selected clients while concentrating on his creative writing and composing.
